Find the faults before a lender does
You, or your adviser, already have a plan or forecast. I read it the way a lender or investor will, test the numbers and tell you what they will pick at.
Business plans and forecasts only. I check the plan or forecast of a business, charity or CIC. I do not review personal finances or give personal financial, investment or pensions advice. See the difference
When you need one
- A loan or investor application is coming. Find the faults first, while you can still fix them.
- An adviser or a friend built it. You want an independent read before it goes to the bank.
- A template or an AI tool produced it. You want someone to check the logic and the numbers tie.
- It was refused or questioned. You want to know why and what to change.
What's in the report
- A written report with the weak points marked
- The numbers tested: do the statements tie, and does the cash work month by month?
- The assumptions challenged against real market facts
- The questions a bank or investor is likely to ask, and what to do about each
- A clear verdict first, then the detail
- Answers to up to 5 written follow-up questions, sent within 7 days of delivery
- Half price for charities and CICs, to give back to the community
What it costs
At least 30% off until 31 January 2027, then £349.
Charities and CICs pay £169.
Every quote is fixed in writing before I start. You pay nothing up front. When the report is ready I invoice, payable within 7 days, and send the final PDF once it's paid.
What takes it above the fixed price: a very large or multi-entity model, or a plan with extensive supporting documents. I say so in the quote before you commit.
How it works
A free 10-minute call if you want one, or straight to the brief by email. You send the plan or forecast, I send a fixed quote within 24 hours, then the written report within three working days of receiving everything. After delivery you can send up to 5 written questions.
A complete plan or forecast check
A full report for a made-up business, every page included. The business and figures are fictional. The format, depth and tone are what you would receive.
What I check first
I spent six years reading other people's numbers for a living. These are the first things I test in a plan or forecast.
Do the statements tie?
Profit and loss, cash flow and balance sheet must agree in every period.
Does the cash work month by month?
The lowest point matters more than the year-end figure.
Are the assumptions real?
Prices, wages, rates and growth are tested against current market facts.
Can the debt be repaid?
Debt service cover and headroom, in the base case and a bad case.
Tax and payroll timing
Paid in the month they fall due, not spread evenly.
What a lender will ask
The likely questions, with an answer ready for each.
About this service
Is there a call?
No. It is a written report. After delivery you can send up to 5 written questions in one email and I reply in writing.
What do I need to send?
The plan or forecast, ideally the Excel file as well as the PDF, and the latest accounts if you have them. A short note on who it is for and when you need it.
Will you tell me if it will not work?
Yes. The check says plainly where the plan or forecast is weak and what a lender or investor is likely to say.
Do you rewrite the plan or forecast?
No. The check marks the faults and says how to fix them. If you want it rebuilt, that is a business plan or business cash flow forecast, and I can quote for it.
Is this an audit, a valuation or tax advice?
No. It is a review of the logic and the numbers. It is not assurance, a valuation or tax advice.
Can I see an example?
Yes. A complete sample check for a made-up community interest company is on this page.
Is my information confidential? Can you sign an NDA?
Yes. I am bound by the ICAEW Code of Ethics, which requires integrity, objectivity and confidentiality, and you can check my practising certificate on the ICAEW register. Everything you send me stays between us. I will sign an NDA before you share any documents, mine or yours, and there is no charge for it.
Do you offer a charity rate?
Yes. Registered charities (including CIOs) and community interest companies pay half my standard fee or less all year round, so £169 for this service. Just give me your charity or company number when you ask for a quote.
